I am autistic and a former missing person. After reading my very poorly written missing persons bulletin, I decided to contact Toronto Police Services about improving their services regarding autism and missing persons. I am now a civilian member of the Toronto Police Services Missing and Missed Implementation Team. And, when I researched autism and elopement, I found absolutely nothing from an autistic person’s perspective. So I developed a study through the University of Waterloo to interview and survey autistic people on their experiences with going missing. This study has given great insight into a poorly understood issue.
