MICHELLE N. ELIASSON

Biography:

Michelle N. Eliasson, PhD, is an assistant professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, and an affiliate of the Center for Peace, Justice & Human Rights at Florida Atlantic University.  She obtained her Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Florida and her B.S. from Lund University, Sweden. Her primary areas of expertise are victimology, policing, trauma, and qualitative methodology. Some of Michelle’s research explores criminal justice professionals’ occupational experiences and their perceptions of victims/victimization. For example, in one of her projects, she completed 500 hours of ride-alongs with a police organization and followed 34 cases of domestic and non-domestic battery, examining police officers’ perception of victim legitimacy. Her research has been published in outlets such as Policing: an International Journal, Victims & Offenders, European Journal of Policing Studies, and International Journal of Comparative and Applied Criminal Justice. She is looking forward to exploring various future projects including missing persons, policing and victimization. More information on her past, current and future projects can be found at https://www.michelleeliasson.com/
